Seven Sisters Stroll 03.04.2011

Down to the south coast last weekend for a stroll inland and back along the coast. As we neared the coast, we found ourselves in drifting sea mist, so when we got to the car park at the Seven Sisters visitor centre, we decided to go inland first to give the mist a chance to clear. Having stopped for lunch on the green at East Dean (where Sherlock Holmes retired to tend his bees…), we climbed up to find the mist still rolling in off the sea and a chilling breeze freezing the trees into shape. A roll along the undulations of the Seven Sisters and we were back at the start.

Hastings to Rye 03.01.2011

Some pics from a stroll along the coast from Hastings to Rye for the New Year’s day bank holiday. The day was reasonably clear if a bit overcast, although it attempted few faint flurries of snow at times. Having started near midday, I strolled in to Rye just as the day was dimming and treated myself to a pint as I warmed up by a pub fireside and then a large fish and chips on my way to the station.

Box Hill Ramble 20.03.2011

Took a chance to get out in the last weekend for a little leg stretching up and down and around Box Hill. The sun was out, people were smiling and cyclists were taking the chance to roll along the route for the 2012 Olympic road race. I also had a play with the Nogago GPS app for Blackberry – not a bad little app (free as well) if you’re looking for a better GPS interface than the default or Google Maps.

2011 – a new hope

So the prompt for a resurgance in posts is hope. I think I have in principal agreed with work the idea of a slightly longer holiday break next year. I have in mind a 1200-1500km walk, some details (among others: route) to be finalised. A lot more preparation to do (a couple of trips to Stanfords already and surely more to come), and this time I really ought to get a bit more fit beforehand. And then I’ll probably need to do some gear shopping. Oh the pain of buying new gear
